Earth Day is this Friday, April 22. Between now and then, you’re going to hear and read about plenty of ways you can celebrate this international day of honoring and respecting our planet earth. It’s only natural that Cariloha, with its soft and sustainable products made of viscose from bamboo would have some useful tips and suggestions for getting involved on Earth Day.
Here are six ways to get involved in celebrating Earth Day every day with Cariloha:
1. Use Cariloha Bedding, Bath, and Apparel.
Yes, start living Cariloha today with all our soft and sustainable products. Each of our sheet and towel sets, sleepwear, underwear, and more provide you with sustainable alternatives to other non-sustainable fabrics in the marketplace today.
Our caring for the planet begins with bamboo and starts at the source – right out of the ground – and extends all the way to our customers’ homes. Bamboo, as a natural resource, is organically grown without the use of pesticides, self regenerates without the need for replanting and is irrigated exclusively by natural rain water. Viscose from bamboo is derived from this renewable and sustainable resource and, unlike traditional fabrics, does not have to be treated or sprayed with chemical finishes to provide performance characteristics, making it a sustainable alternative.
Bamboo…
Saves Our Soils
Bamboo grows out of earth’s natural soils without the use of any harmful chemicals or pesticides, making for cleaner, safer soils and healthier dirt quality.
Saves Our Oceans
Bamboo retains and improves soil health to prevent dangerous water or chemical runoff.
Cleans Our Air
Bamboo produces more oxygen and sequesters more carbon.
Grows Organically
Bamboo requires no fertilizer, pesticides, or harmful chemicals to grow.
Replenishes Naturally
Bamboo is self-replenishing, without reseeding, and can grow up to 3 feet per day.
2. Share Cariloha with Someone Else.
Part of celebrating any holiday is sharing it with others. An easy way to get involved in this earth-loving holiday is to talk about bamboo and Earth day with your friends and family. Maybe gift a family member a Cariloha shirt, pair of socks, or a towel set. It’s a good way to make a concept stick. Think about something you received from a friend that was unique, educational and meaningful – all at the same time. Did you remember that gift and did it impact you in some way? Either way, you can at least let your friends and family feel your bamboo clothing or your plush towels, which naturally repel odors and allergens and stay fresher, longer.
Everyone who sleeps in, bathes with, or wears Cariloha products is intrinsically giving back to a healthier planet.
3. Plant a Tree, a Garden or a Clump of Bamboo.
Before getting in the planting mood, my kids and I love to watch the Emmy-winning Charles Schulz movie, It’s Arbor Day, Charlie Brown, which is found as part of the It’s the Easter Beagle, Charlie Brown holiday special that you can stream online.
Of course, you may have your own get-pumped-for-planting trick that you like to use before giving your green thumb a workout, but Charlie Brown does it for us. Then, head over to your local green house, tree nursery, or Home Depot to find plants, trees or bamboo clumps (pod or grouping of bamboo sprouts) to green up your yard or garden. It’s a great annual tradition to share with your kids.
Note: The size of a clumping bamboo can vary greatly. Although compact by bamboo standards, a mature grove of clumping bamboo will be at least 3 or 4 feet in diameter, and could grow to 15 or 20 feet wide. Some varieties of clumping bamboo grow faster and spread large than others.
4. Using Bamboo Requires Less Water, Washing.
Because bamboo-viscose repels odor and allergens naturally, you can expect to wash your bamboo towels and sheets less often. I’ve personally put this concept to the test. It’s hard to believe at first, but my cotton/polyester towels need to be washed after a few days of use, but my bamboo towels can go as long as two weeks before washing. Probably longer, but what would the neighbors think if you never washed your clothes, towels or sheets…? The point is that you’ll preserve your towels, sheets and clothing because of less ware and tare in the washing cycle, and you’ll use less water as a result.
Cariloha products are also carbon neutral from cradle to gate, and sustainable living has been part of what we do since our inception.
5. Recycle Your Used Textiles (Bedding, Bath, Clothing).
11.3 million tons of textiles go into landfills each year, and we want to change that.
As we strive to help take care of our planet, reducing our overall carbon footprint is one of our core measurable commitments toward a Comfy Way to Save the Planet™. Cariloha is endeavoring to help each of us to reduce our carbon footprint by providing a pathway to renew, upcycle or recycle previously used textile products.
As part of our growing Bamboo Renew Program, U.S. domestic Cariloha showrooms will recycle your unwanted textiles (sheets, towels, clothing, etc.) at no cost to you. Drop them off at a Cariloha near you and keep fabrics out of landfills by recycling them with Bamboo Renew.
6. Take a Break.
Just think about how much you consume and potentially waste in one day. From water and fuel consumption to paper and food disposal, we each leave a definite imprint on the earth on a daily basis. So, on Earth Day, you may want to consider walking or cycling more, wasting less, and taking it easy on this happy day for Mother Nature.
You surely have more ideas than just curling up in your Cariloha bed sheets for the day, so feel free to share them in the comments or email us at [email protected]
