Kinderhook, N.Y. | $785,000

A 1972 house with three bedrooms and two bathrooms, on a five-acre lot

This house is on a large lot about a five-minute drive from the center of town, putting it within easy reach of the restaurants, wine bars and historic buildings that have made this area a popular part of Columbia County. It is also about five minutes from the Ichabod Crane Schoolhouse, a 19th-century structure named after the protagonist in the Washington Irving story “The Legend of Sleepy Hollow.”

The property is about 20 minutes from the city of Hudson, where Amtrak trains make the trip to Penn Station in Manhattan in a little over two hours. Driving to Albany takes about half an hour. Pittsfield is about 45 minutes away, across the Massachusetts state line. Driving to Manhattan takes about three hours, depending on traffic.

Size: 1,940 square feet

Price per square foot: $405

Indoors: A long driveway runs from the street to the attached garage at the front of the house, and a paved path leads around the side, to the yellow Dutch door.

Beyond the threshold is a small foyer that flows into an open living space with maple floors and a sitting area anchored by a brick fireplace and framed by a wall of built-in shelves painted green. On the other side of the space is a dining area with a midcentury-style chandelier and another brick fireplace.

The adjacent updated kitchen has pale green custom cabinets, glossy white counters, a windowed breakfast area and black-and-white tile floors.

The primary suite is off the entry, with an accent wall of painted wood paneling, sliding-glass doors that open to the backyard and a bathroom with a shower lined in deep green Italian tile.

The other two bedrooms, which also have backyard access, are off a hallway extending from the kitchen. They share a full bathroom with a combined tub and shower lined in dark blue Italian tile.

Outdoor space: Beyond the narrow patio behind the house is a grassy backyard. A second patio is around the corner, off the two guest rooms. A fire pit sits in the middle of the yard, and mature trees surround the house, giving the property a sense of privacy.

Taxes: $5,783 (estimated)

Atlanta | $775,000

A two-bedroom, two-and-a-half-bathroom condominium in a 1924 building

This condominium is in one of the city’s first luxury apartment buildings, designed by Philip Trammell Shutze and Neel Reid and added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1971. It is across the street from the High Museum of Art, housed in buildings designed by Richard Meier and Renzo Piano. Atlanta Symphony Hall is also nearby.

Winn Park, a 10-acre preserve with a playground and a pond, is less than half a mile away. Piedmont Park, the Georgia Tech campus and the sports facilities used by the city’s football, baseball and basketball teams are all less than 15 minutes away.

Size: 1,761 square feet

Price per square foot: $440

Indoors: This condominium has a semiprivate elevator, shared with the residents of another apartment.

The front door opens into a foyer with hardwood floors laid in a herringbone pattern. The wood floors continue into an open living-and-dining area. The sitting area is anchored by a gas fireplace flanked by built-in bookshelves, with large windows offering a view of the city skyline. The dining area opposite has more windows with skyline views and access to a powder room.

Through a wide doorway is an open, windowed area with a kitchen and a den. The kitchen has stainless steel appliances, including a range with an electric cooktop and a wet bar with a wine refrigerator. The den is currently set up as a home office. A laundry closet with a stacked washer and dryer is off the kitchen.

The primary suite, off the living room, has a bedroom with a walk-in closet and enough space for a king-size bed; the bathroom has marble floors, black granite counters and a steam shower.

The second bedroom is on the other side of the apartment; it has an en suite bathroom with a jetted tub.

Outdoor space: The building has a spacious lobby and a wide front lawn planted with mature trees. This apartment comes with two deeded parking spots in a secure garage.

Taxes: $10,848 (estimated) and a $1,441 monthly homeowner association fee

Austin, Texas | $779,000

A recently renovated 1956 house with three bedrooms and two bathrooms, on a 0.2-acre lot

This house, which was gut renovated in 2020, has a new HVAC system, a new carport, a new metal roof and solar panels that help to lower monthly energy costs. It is in Windsor Meadows Park, about 15 minutes from downtown, a few blocks from an elementary school and a public library. A H-E-B supermarket, a Target and a Walgreens are less than 10 minutes away by car.

Austin-Bergstrom International Airport and the campus of the University of Texas at Austin are about 15 minutes away.

Size: 1,232 square feet

Price per square foot: $632

Indoors: The front yard is landscaped with gravel, raised garden boxes and mature trees that shade the house.

The front door opens into a living room with new hickory hardwood flooring, large windows and frost-glass doors that open to the private front patio. This space is open to a windowed dining area and a kitchen with a center island and new cabinets and appliances, including a six-burner range and a Fisher & Paykel refrigerator. A mudroom off this space holds a washer and dryer.

The bedrooms are off a hallway extending from the kitchen. The primary bedroom, at the far end, has an en suite bathroom with a walk-in shower that has a glass door. The other two bedrooms share a bathroom off the hallway with a combined tub and shower.

Outdoor space: Like the front yard, the fenced backyard is landscaped with gravel. A canopy-covered patio is at the far end of the yard. The carport has space for two cars; there is room to park more in the driveway.

Taxes: $5,808 (estimated)
